Foot Reflexology Therapy

Foot reflexology is a massage technique that uses very precise foot mapping to restore the body’s balance through the stimulation and compression of specific reflex points on the feet that are related to organs and systems in our body.

This preventive and curative technique has positive effects on various disorders and dysfunctions as it stimulates circulation, the nervous system and the immune system and thus promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, soothes tired feet and is useful in case of congestion. and tension, helps against back pain, cystitis, anxiety, stress and stimulates self-healing.

How does it work?

Reflex is the fundamental activity of the nervous system and conditions and regulates the relationships between organs and internal systems, as well as the relationship between the body and the external environment.

The organs are inseparable components in the unity and integrity of the human body, connected to each other by vascular, nervous and energetic ways and directly with the corresponding reflex zones.

Foot Reflexology is a healing technique already known and used millennia ago. The first treatments carried out by massaging the feet date back to around 5000 BC. C. in China and India.

Our feet are highly sensitive organs (on each of them there are about 7,200 nerve endings) and have an importance that goes beyond their “natural task”, because they support the microcosm of the human being. For this they must be healthy and stable.

Reflex therapy is very effective both in the prevention and in the treatment of many dysfunctions of the whole body, we list the six main remedies:

  • Nerve stimulation, based on the relationship between the nerve endings present in the reflex zones and the point where the pain is present.
  • The pressure on the reflex zone sends communications to the brain, stimulating it to intervene on the problem encountered.
Release of hormones, based on the discovery of brain control over the endocrine system. Thus, it is sufficient to massage the painful reflex areas to stimulate the brain to release brain hormones, such as endorphin, with consequent therapeutic action.
  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system, favored by the pressure of some reflex points which helps to accelerate the lymphatic circulation with benefits for the whole organism.
  • Stimulation of the blood system, with the aim of improving circulation and decreasing the presence of waste in the body.
  • Electric potential, which is created between various parts of the body. According to the reflexology model, the reflex points are comparable to the switches while the organs perform the function of accumulators and therefore by acting on the switches the electrical circulation is reactivated.
  • Psychological influences, which can be explained by the great importance that the mind has on the origin of physical disorders.Reflexology is also indicated in the case of pain and functional disorders such as indigestion, nervous tension and migraine, thanks to the release of endorphins and to restore the balance of the endocrine glands.

Each therapy starts from the observation of the person, his posture, his way of moving and walking. And of course we observe the feet, their position, their tensions and their shape.
Another basic principle of reflexology is the holistic one that sees man as a whole being, an indivisible system, having every part connected to the others.

Generally the treatment lasts about 50-60 minutes for cycles of 9-12 sessions.
